The portrait mode of the Pixel 2 comes to the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S8 and Note 8

Application modification by the more geeky community may not be at its peak, but we were pretty fun for a few weeks, thanks to developers who are adapting the Google Pixel 2 camera app to other models.

The reason is simple, to be able to use portrait mode that has made so much impact on your presentation.

A few days ago, we said that Pixel and Nexus were the terminals that supported this modified APK, but shortly after an upgrade enabled it for more models such as OnePlus 3 or OnePlus 5.

Now a new version has come to cover some of the most used Android phones, [SamsungGalaxyS7S8eNote8comchipExynos that are sold in Spain.

How to use portrait mode on the Samsung Galaxy

Unlike the other models in this case, we have to make a minimal configuration in the settings after installing the APK that can be downloaded here directly . In this section, we have to choose these parameters:

  • Model: Nexus 6
  • Portrait mode on all models: on
  • off
  • camera.faceboxes: in

Once this is done, we can take pictures using portrait mode, although we have already warned that is still an application in development and that the border detection is not as good as it should be .

In this image, you have an example of how this function behaves. At the bottom, you see the difference between using the Galaxy S8 camera that comes standard and using the modified one. As you can see, the quality is not as high, with a worse dynamic range.

If you are interested in this function, you can be aware of the evolution of this modification. In a few days, it extended the range of compatible devices and improved its options, allowing not only use portrait mode but also HDR + or 4K video recording.
